Pumping Air Entrained Concrete and the Super Air Meter
Why do we lose air while pumping air entrained concrete
The Super Pump adds air to the sealed air chamber of an air entrainment meter. Once the initial pressure is reached, the air is released into the vessel containing the concrete and the percentage of entrained air can be determined. The Pump has a large, easy-grip handle and builds pressure quickly. It must be properly maintained to prevent air leakage.

The H-2783 air meter features the Humboldt, all-brass super pump, the most reliable and highest quality pump available. The meter's easy-to-use, stainless steel clamping system employs four, one-piece, self-locking clamps that quickly seal the lid to the base with proper tension aided by …
Enhanced Entrained Air Void System Characterization for
1. Develop two alternative entrained air void system characterization and measuring techniques. 2. Compare alternative techniques to that of the current practice (ASTM C457) and Super Air Meter. 3. Correlate entrained air void system data to the fresh and hardened properties of highway concrete…
Entrained Air: Now You See It, Now You Don't | American
The H-2784 Super Air Meter (SAM) is a testing device that measures both the air void spacing and air volume of plastic (fresh) concrete in about 10 minutes. Air void spacing has been shown to be a better indicator of concrete freeze-thaw durability than total air content; however, until now, it has been challenging to measure in fresh concrete.
Concrete Pumping Effects on Air-Entrained Voids in
Placing concrete using a concrete pump has placement advantages due to the increased speed, accessibility, and convenience of operation. Unfortunately, the pumping of air-entrained concrete is known to affect the fresh air content in the fresh concrete.

Aug 03, 2009 · The Roughneck hose was made to reduse the air loss, by keeping the pipes full to the end of the tip hose, in otherwords, the mud doesn't see a 'vacuum' condition. A steady pumping rate and a nice even stream of concrete coig out the hose goes a long way to controling lossof entrained air…
ASTM C231: Testing Air Content of Concrete With a Type B
Apr 04, 2021 · Significance and Use of ASTM C231. This test's purpose is to get the air content of a sample of concrete using a pressure meter. In the meter you have a known volume of air at a known pressure in a sealed air pot with an unknown volume of air being contained inside the sample of wet concrete.
Air Entrainment and Concrete Durability [techbrief]
Nov 01, 2019 · The entrained air component plays a critical role in ensuring the durability of the concrete and is the focus of this Tech Brief. It provides background on the mechanisms responsible for freeze-thaw damage, discusses the importance of critical saturation, and introduces specific strategies to better establish an acceptable entrained air-void
Air Entrainment for Concrete Testing - Humboldt Super Air
THE SAM MEASURES WHAT MATTERS ABOUT YOUR CONCRETE. Concrete needs the right bubble size in order to survive in freezing climates. The Super Air Meter (SAM) is a modified version of the typical pressure method and can measure the bubble size and volume in wet concrete in about 10 minutes. This ensures you are placing concrete that is freeze thaw durable with more consistent air volume.

Air Entrainment Meters and Indicators - Humboldt Mfg
Jan 28, 2021 · This presentation will discuss changes in the volume of air entrained concrete in pumped concrete. The work shows that during pumping the air volume will decrease and if measured immediately after pumping will be lower than what is found in the final concrete. These findings are supported by hardened air void analysis, freeze thaw tests, and measurement of the air void volume and spacing over time in the fresh concrete with the Super Air Meter.
air void quality in the fresh concrete. This is especially useful to evaluate a concrete mixture before and after a paver, or a pump and for investigation of concrete mixtures with a number of admixtures. The meter has been validated with over 50 concrete mixtures with different air entraining agents, water reducers, w/cms, and cement contents.
